Outdoor gyms for parks, schools and estates
Free to use outdoor gyms get people of all ages active. We install outdoor fitness equipment for council parks, parish playing fields, schools and new housing estates, with the surfacing to go with it.
From a single piece next to a play area to a full outdoor gym, we can help you plan it and put it in.

Planning an outdoor gym
Equipment for every age and ability
A good outdoor gym has a mix of cardio, strength and stretching equipment, so people can do a full workout. Many pieces are suitable for older people and less able users as well as regular gym goers.
We install the equipment on concrete foundations and lay wet pour, rubber mulch or grass mats around it, or set it into an existing tarmac area.

Councils, schools and developers
Outdoor gyms for councils and schools
Councils and parish councils use outdoor gyms to make parks work for adults as well as children. Schools use them for PE and after school clubs, and housing developers add them to public open space on new estates.
We have installed outdoor gym equipment for councils and outdoor gym companies, from Rochdale and Middleton to Leeds and Hull.
Planning an outdoor gym
Outdoor gyms for parks, schools and estates
An outdoor gym gives teenagers and adults a free place to keep fit, and it brings more people into a park. Here is how we plan one with councils, parishes, schools and housing developers.
Who uses outdoor gyms
Outdoor gyms are used by everyone from teenagers to older people, and by parents while their children play nearby. Siting the gym close to a play area or a well used path gets the most use out of it.
Choosing the equipment
A good mix includes cardio pieces such as cross trainers, bikes and walkers, strength pieces such as chest presses, leg presses and pull up bars, and a bar rig for calisthenics. Some pieces are designed to be used from a wheelchair. We help you choose a mix that suits the space and the people using it.
Surfacing underneath
Most outdoor gym equipment has low fall heights, but the ground still needs to be firm, level and free draining. We lay wet pour, rubber grass mats or a hard surface to suit, like the black and green wet pour on our Grimsby jobs.
Before and after
Many outdoor gyms replace tired old equipment or empty ground. On the Grimsby park job further up this page, we took out the old worn pads and kit and fitted a new outdoor gym on fresh wet pour.
Signs and instructions
Each piece comes with instructions, and we can fit signs that show how to use the equipment safely, so new users feel confident having a go.
Looking after it
Outdoor gym equipment is built to stand outside all year, but moving parts and bearings should be checked regularly and covered in your annual inspection. We can carry out repairs when something needs attention.
Questions we get asked
Outdoor gym questions
What surface does an outdoor gym need?
Usually wet pour, rubber mulch or grass mats around each piece, or it can be set into existing tarmac.
Can you install equipment from another supplier?
Yes. We install outdoor gym equipment for several suppliers as well as our own jobs.
Can you move or repair existing equipment?
Yes. We relocate, replace and repair outdoor gym equipment.
Does an outdoor gym need safety surfacing?
It needs a firm, level, free draining surface. Bar rigs and pieces with a fall height need safety surfacing to suit.
Can it go next to a play area?
Yes, and it often works best there, so parents can exercise while their children play.
Is the equipment suitable for older people?
Yes. Many pieces are low impact and easy to use, and some are designed for wheelchair users.
Can you remove our old gym equipment?
Yes. We take out old equipment and surfacing and dispose of it as part of the job.
Each piece is set on concrete foundations to the manufacturer’s instructions, so it stays solid with heavy use.
We lay the surfacing around each piece, or cut equipment into an existing tarmac area and make good.
We fit the user signs that come with the equipment and leave the area clean and ready to use.
