MUGA
Westbury-on-Trym
NWS Delivered a fantastic project to Westbury-on-Trym Primary in Bristol. We were challenged with awkward access and a sloping site, but we overcame any obstacles to deliver a fantastic looking MUGA to this school in Bristol.
What we did
Before starting, we set all the levels for the new area – Accurately calculating excavated materials, so we could raise and lower the site enough to utilise anything that we excavated. This way we save traffic across site, thus creating less damage and save the school some costs as there are minimum waste spoil removal charges this way.
We used oversized machinery to save on traffic across the site – bigger machines mean less trips across the school field with imported materials, meaning the site would be ready for use as soon as they return from the holidays - no muddy, messy tracks that need fencing off while the grass seed establishes, the end result being a field that seemed completely untouched.
Our Step By Step Process
Establish site
Set/Mark out
Strip turf and stockpile
Strip Top soil and stockpile
Excavate to depth using sub-soil to raise the level at one end
Compact raised area every 75mm
Install Pre Cast Concrete Kerbs on a bed of ready-mixed concrete to perimeter to achieve finished level
Import MOT Type1 Stone base and compact
Utilise the stripped off turf to reinstate the area and build/form the slopes and compact
Utilise the stripped off top-soil to cover and rake neat and grass seed
Import and lay open textured tarmac
Installation of the MUGA including panels
Installation of astro-turf complete with in-laid lines
Spread and brush kiln dried sand into the astro-turf pile
Tidy, clean and thoroughly check everything on site.
